What Should You do if Your Roof is Leaking?

One of the many things that home- and business owners should be conscious of is the state of their residence or structure. How often do you inspect the walls, floors, or roof? If you don’t, then it’s time you do so because ignoring their condition could cause problems in the future.

A roof is one of the most important parts of a home or business. If you’ve noticed dark spots forming in the ceiling or strange, rotting smells lately, then our McAllen roofers are ready to help!

Spotting a Leak

We’ve all dealt with a roof leak at some point. It happens to everyone, and it happens to every structure as well; homes, warehouses, office buildings, etc. And you’re most likely to spot a roof leak during heavy rainfall.

Other than noticing a small puddle of water on the floor beneath where the leak has formed, there are a few other ways to tell if your roof needs to be repaired.

Indoors, look for the following on your ceiling:

  • Dark or discolored spots
  • Sagging or areas that appear to be cracked
  • Chipped or faded paint
  • The scent of rotting wood

Outdoors, keep an eye out for following on your roof:

  • Damaged shingles (missing, broken, chipped, warped, buckling, etc.)
  • Discolored spots
  • Weak spots that appear soft when stepped on or poked

What You Should Do

No matter if the leak is minor or serious, do your best to prevent puddling water on the floor beneath it. These puddles can create hazards and damage your flooring, tiles, carpet, etc. Place a large bucket, trash can, or container on the floor to collect the leaking water. If you can, poke and prod the ceiling area where the leak has formed to determine if the material is weak. If so, then there’s a chance that water is accumulating above you.

As soon as you get the opportunity to do so, reach out to our roofing company in McAllen. We perform both roof repairs and replacements, depending on how serious the situation is. Either way, you’ll get great customer service and a team of experienced professionals to design and build your roof!
